Unexpected surprises!
Zeeland is full of surprises. You’ll be impressed by its imposing capital Middelburg, with its lively market, little shopping streets, enjoyable cafés, tearooms, and restaurants. For a more active day out, sailing and surfing are popular at the Brouwersdam. And whatever else you do, you should certainly visit the immensely impressive flood defences, the “Oosterscheldekering”.

Oosterscheldekering
The original intention was to dam up the Eastern Scheldt completely, but protests from environmental organisations and the fishing industry led to the tidal flow being preserved by building the truly impressive Oosterscheldekering storm surge barrier. You can find out all about this immense structure and how it was constructed at Deltapark Neeltje Jans, an unforgettable day out for young and old.
Great for cycling
The surroundings of Hotel De Logerij guarantee miles and miles of cycling pleasure. You can follow the trail through the dunes from Renesse to Haamstede, or ride along the banks of the Eastern Scheldt to the picturesque historic centre of Zierikzee. Leaflets with these and other routes are available from reception.

Historic towns
Visit the historic towns of Veere, Middelburg, Goes, or Zierikzee and discover Zeeland’s rich past, in which the Eighty Years’ War with Spain and the rise of the Dutch East India Company played a major role. Zeeland is a great place to soak up culture, with its countless monuments, picturesque little shopping streets, and fine town squares.
A day on the beach
For most visitors to Renesse, the beach is the biggest attraction – quite rightly so! Throughout the year it’s a great place to walk and enjoy sports, and in the summer you can go swimming. The beaches here are often awarded the Blue Flag, the eco-label for Europe’s cleanest beaches. In high season, the beach is supervised and there is a first aid post.
